Vehicle Description

1987 BMW e30 328iS

I have up for auction today my baby, my pride and joy, and the car I wish to sell.

Alot of other eBay auctions come and go, showcasing e30's the owner would have you believe are the nicest ones out there, the cleanest, the fastest with all the boltons eBay has to offer... I won't comment on them, but in my 6 years in the online e30 community, 2 years professional BMW mechanic experience, and countless meet & greet's I've yet to see any e30 anywhere near as clean or nice. This definitely isn't the fastest e30 on the planet, but it is more then fast enough to get you into a bunch of trouble should you have a lapse of judgment :vampire:

I've spent just under 6 years methodically constructing this car. I purchased only the very best parts for this car, and when I say that I mean it. No off brands, no made in China junk.

I have just shy of $25,000 USD invested into parts alone in this car. I will include in the sale a 1in thick binder filled with an extensive collection of receipts and invoices.

I do 99% of my own labor and the amount of that in the project is unfathomable. Please keep this in mind as you place your bids!

During my ownership this car has gone from a lump of coal at best, to an absolute diamond. This e30 will match the acceleration of a e36 M3, it will out handle it, and will out brake it with ease. While the engine is very built it does manage quite surprising gas mileage on the highway. Around town you can expect 15-20MPG depending on how frisky you are, and on the highway keeping it cool... I see 30+ on a regular basis at 75MPH in 5th maintaining speed.

This car does not leak a drop of any fluid what so ever. I mean it. Every single seal in the engine, cooling system, transmission, differential etc is brand new.

This car will not mark its territory unless you use your right foot while driving.

The chassis of the car has 187,000 mi on it, everything else has 21,000mi or less. Engine is less then 11,000mi.

This car is actually my current daily driver, while not the most luxurious and driver friendly of drivers.. it is still tolerable on the street if you choose to do so. I've driven it like this for about 15,000mi. This car is ready for any venue of your choosing, be it daily driving, showing, or taking it to a track. It will not disappoint.

This is an exceedingly well modded and well rounded e30. Its not for everyone, but hopefully it is for you!

First I will hit you with the cold hard facts on the spec sheet, and below you can find photos and commentary on the various systems in the vehicle.

Engine: The engine in this e30 is a hand built 2.8L "stroker" engine. No expense spared, and the single highest specific output NA m20 I am aware of in the country. The engine is properly tuned with Unichip engine management, and with the HFM conversion and lightweight flywheel it really does feverishly rip to redline gear after gear. Idle is slightly lumpy, but is still quite steady and perfectly suitable for use on the street. I use high quality non-synthetic oils in it, and change it every 2500mi or less. I did try 5-w50 Castrol Syntec for about 4000mi but switched back because of excessive consumption, the design and gapping on the TotalSeal oil ring is not setup with such a thin oil in mind.

Exterior: The exterior really is everyone's favorite part isn't it? This is no exception. I could never really find a bodykit that I genuinely liked and felt looks appropriate so I picked and chose parts from newer BMW and reshaped/remolded them to fit my application. The end result is nothing short of stunning, and is definitely 100% unique. This car turns heads all day long, and believe it or not gets zero attention from the local police. It does not exude the "look at me" qualities that ricers do.. for example. I've had many enthusiasts chase after me hoping to get a couple questions in, or get me to pull over so they can have a good long look at the vehicle. Its really quite a treat to drive and be seen in. Everything tasteful you can really think to do has been done, and then some. The M-Doublespoke II wheels shown in the shoot with Misty below are not included with the car! They were replaced with the CSL replicas.

Lighting: Not a ton going on here, just the usual tasteful choices. Smoked front turn signals and rear tail lamps. Original Bosch euro similes, brand new ZKW fogs with urethane shields on them! Only real deviation from the norm is the fitting of a Phillips 4300k HID setup. Its as bright as HID temps get, and it truly throws down a swath of daylight ahead of you on late night spirited drives. None of the pictures I have below show the HID, just do you know. Sorry about the lack of photos there.

Suspension: Alot of extensive work has been done to the suspension. The car truly does handle like it is on rails. It will push well over 1.0 lateral G on a skid pad with the currently equipped wheels and tires. If one was to add some nice R comps for track usage this car could be a devastatingly effective tool. The heart of the suspension would be the Ground Control coilovers and the Koni SA dampeners. While very firm they still ride surprisingly well. Highway cruising isn't brutal, and around town is more then livable. Some have no doubt noted the conversion to 5lug, and the accompanying big brakes front and rear. MZ3 trailing arms were used in the rear for the enforcements and massive brakes. e30 M3 front strut housings used in front for proper geometry. None of that halfass caster challenged e36 M3 strut housing crap here. Wheels are 18x8.5 e46 M3 CSL replicas made by Velocity Motoring. Tires are 245/35R18 Toyo T1R all around. Tires have 90% or better tread. No track days, burnouts, "drifting" or other assorted abuse on these tires. Coilovers are currently set as low as they go in the rear, and about 1/2in up from as low as possible in the front. Rear wheels/tires do not rub on the fenders under any circumstances, front tires will rub on the fender lip (rolled so it will NOT catch) under extreme cornering. Because of the sheer size of the front wheels and tires they do rub the inner wheel well rails at full lock. A small amount of your turning circle is sacrificed in the name of handling. Parking etc is not an issue.

Brakes: The brakes have got to be one of my most favorite parts of the car. Its really hard to decide, but they are definitely up there. The front and rear rotors are identical to stock e36 M3 units (same part numbers and all) Front calipers are e36 M3, and rear calipers are slightly different then e36 M3, but feature the same piston diameter and pad surface area. Anyone who has every had the opportunity to drive a e36 M3 up to speed and stand on the brake pedal knows how monstrously fast those brakes bring the car back to sane speeds. Now imagine the same brakes, attached to 500+lbs less car. Plain and simple these are variable anchors. I've never been able to make them fade, and they will engage the fully functional ABS if you stand on it well over 130mph. Pads are currently OE Jurid rear, and OE Pagid front. Saw no need for more aggressive pads, but that is certainly an option. All 4 calipers were completely disassembled, degreased, bead blasted, washed, honed, and resealed/rebuilt with new seals, guides, etc.

Interior: For what the car is, the interior is quite comfortable. I like black leather, and there is a lot of it. Sure the seats are heavy, but I like Vaders and always will. The interior really consists of a lot of very small details that add up to a very stunning, well kept, impressive interior for a e30. There is of course no sound deadening in the passenger cabin (or the rest of the car) nor is there AC, but with 2 windows, a sunroof, and a heavy right foot I haven't had any issues yet. Windows were all tinted OUTSIDE of the vehicle. That's right, I removed all 5 pieces of glass from the car, washed them, and had them tinted properly. The film used was best money can buy, and the work top notch. It will not purple or peel. All glass was razored at the very edge so you simply cannot see the edge of the tint when you roll down the window etc like is oh too common on lesser quality jobs. The mods list above covers all the small stuff, inquire about anything else!

Drivetrain and Exhaust: The drivetrain is mostly stock, there is not a whole lot to improve upon here in any application I every planned for the car. I have fitted a 4.10:1 LSD, lightweight flywheel, 6 puck unsprung metallic clutch, and beefy MZ3 halfshafts. The shifter linkage has been modified to keep it very tight by using brass bushings instead of rubber and plastic. The exhaust is highly modified. Fully Jethot coated headers and catless midpipes. Custom bent pipes into a dual in/out straight through Brullen muffler that is more of a resonator at this point. This exhaust does NOT exhibit any of the rasp characteristic of ricers. It is VERY open and free flowing, and is loud, but not so loud as to constantly attract attention from law enforcement. I have never been pulled over, ticketed, etc for the exhaust. I don't expect you will either unless you rip past a cop at WOT.
